Special needs bikes, also known as special needs tricycles, adaptive bikes or adaptive tricycles, allow children or adults with limited mobility to experience the joy and freedom of bike riding while providing a safe way to exercise and increase muscle strength and tone. Riding a tricycle provides both fun and fitness, and is a therapeutic activity that allows children to exercise their lower extremities. As the muscles move through cycling motions, they are flexed, extended and stretched. This range of motion is crucial for children with disabilities, because muscles are incapable of keeping up with bone growth unless fully extended. Disabling contractures are a consequence of immobility.
Cycling with mobility problems:
Bicycles can be adapted or made for people with a wide range of physical disabilities and mobility problems, ranging from the now reasonably common tricycles, recumbent bicycles and hand cycles for those without the use of their legs, through to completely bespoke systems for individual conditions. Tricycle Manufacturers may be designed for individual cycling or to attach to the bicycle of an able bodied companion. A great benefit of an adapted cycle is that it can greatly extend the speed, range and flexibility of travel compared to a wheelchair, giving the user much greater independent mobility.
Bicycles that are adapted to carry wheelchairs are also available. These allow a disabled user to accompany a cyclist, but without contributing physically to the pedaling or steering.

The structure of a Tricycle Suppliers provides a great deal of comfort for both kids and adults. For kids, the slightly recumbent position makes it easy to reach the handlebars and push the pedals. This is especially good for toddlers whose coordination doesn't yet allow them to sit upright and pedal on a bicycle. Adults, especially those with back problems, will find that broad, padded tricycle seats are much more comfortable than the smaller, harder seats that bicycles tend to have. Being able to sit for a long time without pain makes using a tricycle more enjoyable and encourages longer rides.
Tricycles are provided to severely disabled children and adults and come in two sizes, 20 inch and 24 inch models. These trikes are grant funded and to qualify for one of these, an individual must suffer from a condition such as, but not limited to, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury or Autism. Medical proof of the condition will be required.
