Power wheelchairs have a great demand among elderly and disabled individuals. Generally, power wheelchair referred to as electric wheelchairs. Basically, the wheelchair is a mobility device that gives an opportunity to sick or a disabled person to move. Functionally, it is a chair mounted on wheels, which can be propelled either manually or electrically. When the wheelchairs are propelled electronically, these are known as electric wheelchairs. Such type of wheel chairs are powered by motors and can be used both in indoors and outdoors.

Some people may require using a wheel chair because of old age, paralysis, weight, degenerating muscle diseases, broken or weak bones or other illnesses. Basically, electric wheelchairs are easy to use because they are powered by batteries and can be controlled by a joystick. So many advanced technologies like spring suspension, pneumatic wheels and hydraulic systems are being applied. It ensures strength and durability of the wheelchair. There are basically three types of electric wheelchairs. These are including rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and mid-wheel drive.

The most important advantage of a power wheelchair is that they are easy and convenient. Although power wheelchairs do have an electric motor, these are operated and controlled by the user on the chair. It is always advisable that before choosing a wheel chair, the features like the weight and size of the person using it, the convenience of both indoor and outdoor use, the chair's weight capacity, power source, warranty and lastly the cost. But these are generally used by people who have limited or no mobility due to many different ailments.
